Dell PowerEdge R240 — Full Technical Specifications
The R240 is the cheapest rack server Dell made in its generation: one socket, four cabled bays, a fixed supply, and the same management processor as machines ten times its price. It is bought for branch offices, for small clusters and as the box that runs one application at a site nobody visits.
It is listed as a new build, and refurbished units come through steadily.

Everything about this machine is in the two rows near the bottom of the table, and both are limits. Drives are cabled: a disk replacement means the server comes down. The supply is fixed and single: so does a power supply replacement. Neither matters if the site can tolerate a scheduled stop, and both matter enormously if it cannot — in which case the answer is the next model up rather than a different option on this one. What you get for the price is genuine enterprise management, the ability to run the same tooling as the rest of the estate, and error-correcting memory. The controller row is where a worthwhile upgrade sits.
