Dell PowerEdge R740xd2 — Full Technical Specifications
The R740xd2 is the large-format storage chassis of Dell's fourteenth generation: one board, one management stack, and a front face given over almost entirely to bays. It was sold to people building archives, surveillance stores and backup targets, and second-hand it is bought for exactly those jobs again. A new factory build appears under this model, and so does refurbished stock.

Read the bay row and the supply row together and leave the rest until those two agree. A chassis this dense is bought for what it holds when full, and the practical ceiling is rarely the bay count — it is what the supplies and the cabinet circuit will carry once every bay is occupied. The processor line is deliberately modest for the class, and that is not a shortcoming: the machine's job is to move data off disks rather than compute on it, and a heavier processor buys nothing here. Spend the attention on the controller line instead, since it sets how long a rebuild runs on a fully populated array.
